(Boracay Island) LGU (Local Goverment Unit) of Malay encourage the public to refrain from sharing false and unverified information on social media.
As of March 3, 2020 Boracay Island remains free from COVID-19 or Coronavirus Disease - 19 as of today.
"The whole Municipality of Malay (Boracay Island included) remains free from Coronavirus Disease-19 or COVID-19, as of today, March 3, 2020.
Some reports in social media that the Island of Boracay will be closed due to COVID-19 IS NOT TRUE.
As a matter of fact, the Municipal Tourism Office of the Local Government Unit of Malay recorded a total guest arrivals of 103,834 of various nationalities from February 1-29, 2020.
This manifests that despite the closure of Chinese and Korean market in tourism industry, other nationalities, especially domestic tourists' arrival picked up.
We once again encourage the public to refrain from sharing false and unverified information on social media."
